The Horned Dorset Colony

Emerging Program member
Emerging and professional artists working in the fields of writing, literary translation, musical composition, architectural design, visual arts and interdisciplinary arts are eligible to apply for a four-week residency in the rural town of Leonardsville, located in central New York State.
The founders have graduate degrees in the arts and they have donated multiple houses and the use of 250 acres of land to advance the Colony's mission and insure its future growth. They also own The Horned Dorset Inn, a long-established and successful inn and restaurant which provides the Colony with a dining facility as well as an elegant venue for fundraising events, exhibitions and cultural engagement with the public.
The Horned Dorset Colony offers 2 sessions in 2017:
SESSION I June 2 - June 28
SESSION II July 2 - July 28
Apply for EARLY ACCEPTANCE to either session by February 9 deadline.
Apply for LATE ACCEPTANCE to either session by April 13 deadline.
Applicants submit samples of work, recommendations, and a brief description of work intended. Residents are selected primarily on the basis of artistic merit, with consideration given to stylistic and geographic diversity. Applications are reviewed by an outside panel of professionals and the directors and can be made on-line.
"Horned Dorset Colony provides a deep and profound caring for the arts and the artists."
Joellyn Duesberry, 2012 Resident Artist
