Dear ArtSpan Community,

Many of us feel despair today.  This election has shown a deep and ugly divide in our country.  Regardless of your political position, this is frightening.

I encourage all of you to dig in locally and recommit to your community. In times where politics feel far away and it’s hard to know how to make a difference, I want to assure you that your presence matters. Art is a salve that heals our differences. Art helps us express the inexpressible.  Gathering as a diverse community gives everyone a voice and a face, and no one is “other”.

To our hundreds of artists and art appreciating members, I invite you to come to our events.  Come out and take comfort in others who care about our society, art & culture and each other. I am committed to creating and maintaining community, please join us. Art unites!

Joen Madonna
ArtSpan Executive Director

November 2016 News and Events

Thank you for an amazing month of SF Open Studios!

From great big parties to tiny home studios, it has been a wonderful ride for our creative community.  Art is very much alive in San Francisco, and we are glad you are part of it!

Non-Buyer's Remorse?  We Can Cure That!

Is there a piece you saw on that first day of SF Open Studios that you just can't forget?  Is there a studio you meant to get back to last Sunday, but then your friend got hungry and made you leave?  Do you regret not asking that photographer if she had a different size available?  Ouch!  We've been there.  Luckily, ArtSpan artists don't vanish after SF Open Studios, and we can help you find them!  Here are a few tips:
  • The SF Open Studios Guide has Premier Artists arranged by address, and indexed by name or by medium.  If you don't have a print copy, you can see it online.
  • The ArtSpan website has contact listings and images for all member artists.  You can also search it by weekend, medium, or name.
  • Did you pick up a postcard or business card?  Check your purse, and your backpack, and your pockets...
  • Can't find them?   Drop ArtSpan a note and we'll help you out.

Maybe Later?

If now isn't the time for an art purchase, get on the mailing list of an artist you love.  It's a great way to find out where they're exhibiting next, get first view of new work, and it keeps your inbox pretty!  Sign up on their website, or just drop them an email.  When the time is right, you'll be ready.

Tell a Friend...

If you liked an artist, chances are good that you know someone who would like them too.  Play matchmaker!  It's fun to connect artists with collectors!
