Two Editions to honor Gay Pride Month, and our Photo Levallois Award winner

In June, we honored Gay Pride Month with two Editions that celebrate the courageous human spirit. The response was every bit as enthusiastic as we'd hoped it would be!

In 1969, at age nineteen, Anthony Friedkin began a self-assigned project to document the gay communities blooming in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The resulting collection, The Gay Essay, opened this month to a packed gallery at San Francisco's de Young Museum. The exhibition remains open through January 11, 2015. Our digital Edition, which includes audio commentary by Friedkin, remains open indefinitely.
Vincent Cianni is making waves with his collection Gays in the Military, published by Daylight. He appeared on Katie Couric's show "Katie" on June 9 to talk about the troubling effects of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" on U.S. servicemen and women and those closest to them. We released Cianni's portraits and their accompanying interviews in this Edition.

In other great news, Daylight artist Esther Teichmann's work Fractal Scars, Salt Water and Tears just won the 2014 Photo Levallois Award. The prestigious award is given annually to a young photographer submitting a series of yet-unpublished images. The winner receives a cash prize of €10,000 and an exhibition at the Photo Levallois Festival in October.

Treat yourself to a look at Teichmann's collection The Photograph as a Portal, which we featured as an Edition in March of 2014.
