The City College of San Francisco's Photography Department is one of
the oldest and largest programs in the country with over two dozen
courses and more than thirty Instructors. We offer a broad selection of
classes including but not limited to History and
Aesthetics of Photography, Advanced B&W Darkroom Techniques,
Advanced Studio Lighting, Digital Imaging, Mixed Media and Business
Practices of Photography.
Our faculty and staff consist of experienced professionals who create
an environment that encourages creativity, technical aptitude and
critical thinking. Whether your interest is as a fine artist, commercial
photographer or enthusiast, we will provide the
means and guidance that will help you achieve your goals.

Photography Public Lecture
Series
Each semester, the photography department hosts a public lecture
series as part of CCSF’s Concert and Lecture Series. This series of
lectures is free and open to the public and can also be taken for
college credit.
Oct. 15th DEANNE DELBRIDGE
Delbridge has “jump started” many, many big name photographers both in
the Bay Area as well as nationally. Talks about, show’s examples,
discusses portfolio techniques, strategies, and techniques for breaking
into the professional world of photography. All
fields; commercial, fine art, portraiture etc. Deanne is an incredible
motivator and facilitator with infectious energy.
Oct. 29th JUDY WALGREN
Photo Editor for the Chronicle newspaper. I went to a lecture and
showing of her work. She has a unique way of expressing and capturing
people in how they do their work and live their lives in both a natural
and for the camera, a dramatic way.. Her journalistic
photography, and person are commanding both to her subjects an audience
as well.
Scholarships & Contests
PH51 SCHOLARSHIP: Entries due Friday Oct. 26, 2012
WHO
Open to Beginning Photography Students currently enrolled in PH51.
THEME
“Light As Subject”. The very essence of the word ‘photo’ means
light. One way of looking at light is to think of it as the subject of
the image itself or to follow it, see it, and in turn to help others see
it on any subject of your choice. Tips: Time of
day matters as does direction and quality of light.
WHAT
The Barbara Stewart Memorial Scholarship was established by the ESL
Department in memory of the late and beloved Barbara Stewart, an ESL
instructor and photography enthusiast. Each semester, a beginning
photography student is awarded a $250 scholarship in her
honor.

DUE 10/31 The 6th Annual College Seen Photo Contest
is just around the corner! Students have the chance to win a $500 cash
award, Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design Premium, and a Wacom Intuos4 Extra
Large pen tablet! The contest begins on September 4th and the submission
deadline is October 31st! Last year, student
Percy Manriquez from CCSF won the “Conceptual Category”. It’s free to
enter – so there’s no excuse not to try – CCSFers have taken prizes the
last several years so do us proud and enter today.
College Seen™ Photo Contest tells the story of the
California Community Colleges from a student perspective. The contest is
sponsored by the Foundation for California Community Colleges and the
CollegeBuys purchasing program, with software prizes
courtesy of Adobe®. Currently enrolled California Community College
students over the age of 18 are eligible to participate. More than 700
students have participated, submitting over 1,000 photographs to the
contest. Winners have been featured in
Affinity magazine,
Community College Week,
Community College Times,
CCC TechEDge, and local newspapers throughout California. In
2010, College Seen launched a faculty judging component. The contest
begins on September 4th and the
submission deadline is October 31st!
