REGIONAL INVITATIONAL

September 4 - 26, 2020

While our biennial 50 To Watch may have been derailed by the impact of COVID-19, The Studio Door has pivoted once again to continue its support of regional artists.

For the month of September, we will bring in two works from 25 artists showcasing the diversity of style, mediums and ideas.

Participating artists: Teresa Austin, Jay Bell, Maurice Cassidy, Lance Chang, Christopher Conroe, Victoria Cracknell, Helena Faitelson, Chitra Gopalakrishnan, Kara Greenwell, Janet Hansen, Sonny Lipps, Maebil Manon, Rafael Fallo Mareyna, Dave Ness, Eric Newnam, Danne Sadler, Jon Savage, Rich Scheaffer, Christina Schulz, Rich Stewart, Theresa Vandenberg Donche, GE Vogt, Tim Weedlun and Larry Wolf.

We welcome you to join us during gallery hours.  With most people working remotely or still sheltering at home, you’ll most likely find the gallery to yourself.   Naturally, we asked that you wear a mask and respect social distancing.

If you feel so bold as to take a day trip to Hillcrest, you’ll find that the retail and vintage stores in the neighborhood are open for business.  Most of the restaurants and bars have spilled into the streets and parking lots so you can even have a moment that almost feels like ‘old times.’

If you prefer to look over the exhibition catalog, it’s online and ready for you.  Click here to visit or go to the URL when you are ready: https://issuu.com/thestudiodoor/docs/regional_exhibition_catalog

  • Gallery Hours:
  • Tuesday through Saturday        Noon - 7 PM
  • or by appointment

A Message from the Gallery

As we move into the next phase of reopening, I wanted to take another moment to say THANK YOU to our patrons and community for their support over the past few months.

It’s clear that people who love the arts understand that artists and small galleries can’t survive without their support.

Every purchase, no matter the size, that has been made the past few weeks is a significant step towards The Studio Door surviving through the shutdowns and social distancing orders.

As we move into the fall, I encourage you to keep us in mind.

If you are in the Hillcrest neighborhood stop in and consider a small purchase from the museum store of a necklace, a bracelet, a fused glass bowl or a fine art scarf.

If you are fortunate to be able to add to your personal art collection, our gallery and studio artists are on hand to assist you with the perfect work of art.

As most of you know, I’m always open to discussing payment plans that work for you.

This is also a great time to consider a commission.  Most of the fine artists that we work with are happy to create a personal work of art for you at a price point that you can afford.

Know that I’m available to help you and the artist sort through the details.

The Studio Door is committed to regular gallery hours Tuesday through Saturday and by appointment.

We also opened up an online gallery where you can purchase works from the leisure of your own home.

While receptions and special events are on hold, I am working out the details for a richer experience for patrons and artists in 2021.  The Studio Door will not be defeated by the pandemic.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

To better days,

Patric

Studio spaces are available for mid-career or professional artists seeking a regular studio practice. Ideally, artists should have a strong interest in patron sales, collaborative exhibition with other studio artists and sharing creative industry resources.

To keep a balance of creative styles, preference will be given to abstract, mixed media, photography and sculptural artists. Click here to get details about Artist Participation.

IN THE MUSEUM STORE

Last October, San Diego's arts community lost artist Ally Benbrook, who passed away from metastatic lung cancer. The Studio Door continues her legacy with original watercolors.  These unframed, matted watercolors are on sale with a proceeds benefiting her family and the gallery.

We hope you will make an effort to stop in and purchase one of these fine watercolors.  Each work has a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Ally.  All serious offers will be considered.
