The Courtauld Institute of Art is the UK’s leading institution for teaching and research in Art History and the conservation of paintings; it is also home to one of the finest small art museums in the world. The Art History department has an outstanding research and teaching record from Late Antiquity to the Contemporary with an increasingly global outlook, and embraces its diversity of theoretical approaches and methodologies.    
The Courtauld wishes to make an open appointment of a Lecturer in Art History to begin on 1 September 2020 for a 0.7 FTE fixed-term period of 12 months. The successful candidate will be in a position to teach the MA Special Option ‘Experiencing Modernism: Utopia, Politics, and Times of Turmoil’, a BA3 Special Option course ‘Reassembling Modernism’, and a BA1 ‘Topic’ course on 20th century modernism (details to be confirmed). The candidate will also deliver a small number of lectures to graduate students. The candidate will also supervise up to 8 Assessed Essays by BA/Graduate Diploma students. The candidate is expected to be able to situate their work in the theoretical and historiographical debates in their specialised research area and also engage with current issues within Art History.    
The appointee will provide inspiring teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They will also play an active role in the life and administration of The Courtauld.
