California Arts Council Administrators of Color Fellowship Applications Now Open

Pilot statewide fellowship, administered by the School of Arts & Culture at the MHP, offers $50,000 stipends for Fellows and $35,000 for Host Organizations

The School of Arts & Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza (SOAC), an Administering Organization of the California Arts Council, announced today the opening of the California Arts Council Administrators of Color Fellowship program. The statewide pilot program will match 10 arts administrators of color, Fellows, with an arts and culture organization, Host Organizations, dedicated to equity and community engagement for a nine- to 12-month fellowship.

About the California Arts Council Administrators of Color Fellowship Program
The California Arts Council Administrators of Color Fellowship program was initiated by the California Arts Council with the goal of uplifting an inclusive workforce and supporting the vibrancy of organizations that create and preserve the cultural identities of all California communities. The pilot program is made possible by a grant from the James Irvine Foundation and one-time increased state arts funding.

The Arts Council designated SOAC, a cultural institution in East San Jose, as the statewide Administering Organization at a public meeting in September 2019. SOAC, in partnership with SVCreates, will administer the program for two years ending in 2021.

Nashormeh Lindo, California Arts Council Chair stated, "The California Arts Council is committed to strengthening opportunities for people of color in arts and cultural spaces throughout our diverse state. SOAC brings a cultural awareness to the program that is essential to developing authentic and fruitful opportunities for host organizations and fellows. We remain grateful to The James Irvine Foundation for their funding partnership that's made this essential pilot possible."
