I don't think artists benefit from spending money entering competitions.

On my LinkedIn feed someone just promoted a competition from a gallery in Peekskill, New York called "Gallery 25N".  To enter the competition it costs $25.  It kind of makes me a little suspicious or dubious that there are so many competitions from galleries that collect an entry fee.  Especially when I've never heard of the gallery or the directors who own it.

I think it's a little odd that competitions like this make enormous promises to promote artists and "make" an artist's career.  Although I have never met an artist who has had that result from entering a competition.  Can anyone recall or name an artist that has become a commercial success as a result of a competition like this one?
