PATRICK EARL HAMMIE STUDIO UPDATE WINTER 2016 Happy New Year, and welcome to my winter update 2016! Below, I share upcoming, ongoing, and recent events from Patrick Earl Hammie Studio. I’m very pleased to announce a new relationship with Kruger Gallery. Inheritance, my first solo show with the gallery and in Chicago, opens February 25. The gallery just opened its second space in Marfa, TX with Adrian Esparza, and kicked of this year in Chicago with Sienna Shields.  After Image, my second solo show with Greymatter Gallery opened in October and was another fun and successful collaboration. I had the enormous pleasure at Art Basel Miami of having my work hung next to Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mark Bradford, Glen Ligon, and other heroes in Beautiful Tonight, a private viewing at Cafeina showcasing Latino and African American artists in the JPMorgan Chase Art Collection. What's Inside Her Never Dies at Yeelen Gallery opened that same week and was a blast! The show runs through February 28. UPCOMING: FEBRUARY 25 INHERITANCE  KRUGER GALLERY 3709 N. Southport Ave. Chicago, IL 60613 February 25 – March 26 Reception: Thursday, February 25, 6 – 8pm Gallery Talk: Saturday, March 19, 2 – 3pm Inheritance presents a female and a male figure locked in a physical dialogue, hefting weight, and reorienting inherited expectations of ruined and objectified bodies that recall and carry on complex legacies of suffering and struggle. Informed by historical representations of Otherness and recent shifts that locate women and people of color as central influencers of culture and politics, this collection provides occasion for us to encounter difference toward considering their capacity for establishing new narratives. UPCOMING: MARCH 4 JUSTICE! Alternative Voices and Progressive Themes in Comics CATICH GALLERY Galvin Fine Arts Center 518 W. Locust St. Davenport, IA 52803 March 4 – April 16 Reception: April 6, 5 – 7pm Curator: Christopher Reno We live in an era of superhero saturation. But who created these superheroes? And whom do they represent? While mainstream comic books actively experiment with alternative universes and progressive ideas, they are created for mass consumption and often shy away from true alternatives. The artists in this survey create comics and comic book imagery specifically for communities not often represented in mainstream comics. From the Black Lives Matter movement to the local voices of children facing incarceration or foster care, these artists illustrate stories about superheroes that live among us.
